El Tovar Hotel, Grand Canyon, Arizona
Boston Brick & Stone was invited to solve a chimney problem at the renowned El Tovar hotel located 100-feet off the rim of the Grand Canyon. The hotel was built in 1905 and has been host to such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Zane Grey, President Clinton and many others.
The hotel suffered a chimney fire in 2007 and although the lobby fireplace was a main attraction of the hotel it was shut down due to fire safety reasons. After a thorough inspection Boston Brick & Stone submitted a 21 page proposal to Xanterra South Rim, LLC. Xanterra selected Boston Brick & Stone’s proposal and we applied the latest in chimney technology to save this 100 year old chimney from destruction. Here is a brief photographic account of the project.
