THE TOWN OF TOPANGA

Topanga was given its name by the Tongav Indians and it means "a place above." Located in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, it was first settled in 1839 by a small group of European immigrants. In the early 1920's, the area became a weekend destination for Hollywood celebrities who were drawn to the privacy of its rolling hills and lush vegetation. Stars such as Humphrey Bogart, Carole Lombard and Peter Lorre made the town their home. In the '60s Topanga became a mecca for rock musicians including Neil Young and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys and is still home to many of today's popular actors and musicians.
